I learned to solve the Rubiks cube earlier this year and find it quite fun once you learn how it is done.  Once you get it down you can then practice on getting faster.  The standard Rubiks cube is referred to as a 3×3, ie 3 rows of 3 or 9 pieces per side.  My personal best on the 3×3 is 0:54 seconds.

Since first learning I have also solved the 2×2, 4×4, 5×5, 6×6, and 7×7 versions of the cube , once you learn the basics of the standard 3×3 Rubiks cube the others are very similar with just a few minor variations.

I like to learn new things and challenge myself, I remember playing with these darn things when I was a kid and this year I saw someone on the news fumbling around with it and I said, “I am going to learn it this year”.

Now my wife, my eldest 15yr, and youngest 10yr sons are solving the cube and we sometimes race to finish first as a family.  She won’t like me saying this, but the only person in the family that can’t solve the cube is my daughter who is in college, I keep telling her that when she comes home we are going to leave the cube outside the door and no entry will be granted until it is solved.

If you have ever thought about wanting to be able to solved it, I can’t say enough what a feeling of joy and accomplishment it is when do!  It is actually very easy once you understand what is going on and if you have an average memory.
